Harrisburg – Government watchdog Gene Stilp, best known for his activism against the 2005 legislative pay raise, announced his candidacy for Congress in the newly-drawn 11th congressional district Monday.

In an impromptu press conference at the top of the Pa. Capitol steps, Stilp said the campaign would be about, “jobs, jobs, and more jobs.” The Dauphin County Democrat emphasized his commitment to keeping open major defense installations like the Carlisle Army War College and the U.S. Army’s base at Fort Indiantown Gap. The Sentinel: Stilp announces bid for 11th Congressional race

HARRISBURG – At noon today, in the Pennsylvania Capital news room in Harrisburg, good government activist Gene Stilp announced that he is forming a committee with the intention of entering the 11th Congressional District race in Pennsylvania.

The immediate goal of the committee will be to gather the signatures required by the state to gain ballot access.

Stilp is widely known as a leading critic of the 2005 Pennsylvania legislative pay raise where he won against the legislative method of awarding that pay raise. He is also known as the keeper of the 25-foot pink pig that he uses to go after the legislature and governor. Read more ›

The Times Leader: Activist announces 11th District run

Gene Stilp, a political activist known for bringing his inflatable pink pig to protest excessive government spending, announced Monday he will seek the Democratic Party’s nomination for Congress from the newly restructured 11th Congressional District.

Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta is the freshman incumbent seeking reelection.Stilp has publicly battled against utilities and legislative pay raises. A resident of Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County, the 61-year-old said the recent redrawing of congressional boundaries extended Barletta’s district into much of areas known to him: Dauphin and Cumberland counties as well as southeastern Perry County.
