HARRISBURG – At noon today, in the Pennsylvania Capital news room in Harrisburg, good government activist Gene Stilp announced that he is forming a committee with the intention of entering the 11th Congressional District race in Pennsylvania.
The immediate goal of the committee will be to gather the signatures required by the state to gain ballot access.
Stilp is widely known as a leading critic of the 2005 Pennsylvania legislative pay raise where he won against the legislative method of awarding that pay raise. He is also known as the keeper of the 25-foot pink pig that he uses to go after the legislature and governor.
The new 11th Congressional district was formed during the recent redistricting by the Pennsylvania legislature and signed into law in late December 2011. The new district now includes all or parts of nine counties including Wyoming, Luzerne, Carbon, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Dauphin, Perry and Cumberland .Stilp resides in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County
Stilp was born and raised at the northern end of the new district, in Luzerne County, where he graduated from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre. He received his juris doctor from the George Mason School of Law in Arlington, Va.
